If you haven't been reading James Reasoner's Snakehaven fantasy novellas, you should be. The series reminds me of Conan the Barbarian, which I'm sure it's supposed to do, but Reasoner is unveiling a large, snake-infested world that is interesting.
In Snakehaven, the huge snakes are a danger, a food source, and connected to magic in ways not yet revealed. Reasoner brings a lot of sword-slinging action to the table as well. Not many pages pass before someone is thumping on someone else.
This is pulp at its finest.
